In Lithuania, Eco-houses are not yet a hot topic. Why? Because most people’s imagination of an Eco-house is still a clay & straw house.

We’re here to tell you that it is far from that.

By definition, an Eco-house is an environmentally low-impact house built using materials and technology that reduces its carbon footprint and lowers its energy needs. That is why we choose to build our Eco-houses using only natural solid timber. In particular, we have chosen Cedarwood for its unique properties (see “Western (or Canadian) Red Cedarwood” article).

Thermal insulation

We cooperate with suppliers who offer a wide range of natural, non-toxic and recyclable building materials. We are pleased that nowadays more and more manufacturers begin to understand the importance of an environmentally-conscious approach to house-building, and are offering eco-friendly building materials.

For thermal insulation, we choose wood fibre wool. Its unique heat accumulation properties are up to 2.5 times better than that of stone wool, and up to 3 times greater than that of polystyrene or glass wool. Wood insulation is proven to significantly reduce energy costs and help you save.

Not only that, but wood insulation also isolates your home from unwanted outside noise, does not irritate the skin, is durable, long-lasting, and non-combustible.

We also use wood fibreboards which are outstanding for the construction of walls, roofs, facades or floors. They are compatible with plastering or gluing tiles, and have superior qualities of thermal insulation, echo-suppressing acoustics, and are non-combustible. Just like wood fibre wool is superior to other types of wool – wood fibreboard is 2.5 – 3 times better than fiberboards made out of inferior materials.

Gypsum fiberboard with sheep wool insulation?

In the construction of houses, we also use gypsum fiberboards and their compounds. Characteristic of gypsum fiberboards, their versatility, properties of sound isolation, moisture and fire resistance, as well as durability (they withstand pressures of up to 50kg) – make gypsum fiberboards a great choice. Once these floorboards are prepared for finish – you can choose from a wide selection of different floor coverings.

We are proud to use Fermacell Greenline gypsum fiberboards, which are far more environmentally-friendly than other options. Fermacell Greenline gypsum fiberboards are covered with natural keratin protein, extracted from sheep’s wool. Similarly to the natural process of how the wool of a sheep filters toxic pollutants, your home will also become a fortress against toxicity. Studies confirm that 73 – 99 % of harmful substances in the indoor air are irreversibly destroyed. This allows clean air to return. The effectiveness of Fermacell Greenline has been studied and approved by Eco Institute in Cologne

We also use clay

We cannot say that we do not use clay in the construction process ourselves. We just use it in different forms.

For interior walls and ceilings finish, we use clay plaster, which is known as the “breathing” plaster, as it regulates indoor moisture balance, prevents mould from forming. The result is smooth and textured surfaces – giving your home another splash of exclusivity.

For interior and exterior finish, we also use clay paint. Don’t worry, they contain NO harmful substances or solvents. Clay is processed into mixed powder and is mixed with fine sand and natural colour pigments. A wide variety of different colours and tones ensures that every proud home-owner will find the best option.

No straw and no clay (maybe a little bit of it)

See? An Eco-house need not mean a Straw & Clay house. With numerous modern options on the market, you do NOT have to choose between an environmentally-low-impact house and a modern house.

With us, you can have both!
